      <title>Multicriterion Homogeneity Metric for Nodule Segmentation and Detection in Computed Tomography.</title>
      <link>https://repositorio.ufma.br/jspui/handle/1/311</link>
      <description>Título: Multicriterion Homogeneity Metric for Nodule Segmentation and Detection in Computed Tomography.
Autor(es): Campos, Vanessa de Oliveira; Silva, Aristófanes Corrêa; Nunes, Rodolfo Acatauassu; Feitosa, Raul Queiroz
Resumo: This work proposes a novel segmentation&#xD;
algorithm for lung nodules detection in thoracic&#xD;
computed tomography (CT) which uses more than one&#xD;
criterion in order to decide at each iteration whether two&#xD;
adjacent objects should be merged or not in a region&#xD;
growing procedure. In experiments conducted upon 33&#xD;
thoracic CTs, support vector machine was used to&#xD;
discriminate nodules and non-nodules. The method&#xD;
achieved 80.9% sensitivity with 0.23 false positives per&#xD;
slice

      <title>Convergence of Augmented Reality and Scientific Visualization, and its Application to Energy, Medicine and Sports.</title>
      <link>https://repositorio.ufma.br/jspui/handle/1/307</link>
      <description>Título: Convergence of Augmented Reality and Scientific Visualization, and its Application to Energy, Medicine and Sports.
Autor(es): Gattass, Marcelo; Silva, Aristófanes C.; Silva, Pedro Mario C. e; Raposo, Alberto
Resumo: What do we find in common among systems&#xD;
that seek to convey meaningful images to an oil&#xD;
reservoir interpreter, a medical doctor and an ordinary&#xD;
sports fan enjoying a broadcasted game on TV? They&#xD;
are generated by a system that processes captured&#xD;
signals and produces images conveying relevant&#xD;
information to the viewer. These processes are based on&#xD;
Computer Vision techniques to analyze the signal in&#xD;
order to predict forms and find features mainly to&#xD;
answer a “what, where and when” type of question.&#xD;
With such information, Virtual Reality techniques are&#xD;
used to produce meaningful images to the human&#xD;
observer. These systems can be understood as the&#xD;
convergence of the Augmented Reality and Scientific&#xD;
Visualization areas. This study presents some industrydemanded&#xD;
systems developed by the Tecgraf group&#xD;
which reflect this convergence.

      <title>Automatic Eye Detection Using Semivariogram Function and Support Vector Machine</title>
      <link>https://repositorio.ufma.br/jspui/handle/1/305</link>
      <description>Título: Automatic Eye Detection Using Semivariogram Function and Support Vector Machine
Autor(es): Almeida, João Dallyson Sousa de; Silva, Aristófanes Corrêa; Paiva, Anselmo Cardoso
Resumo: Several computational systems which depend&#xD;
on the precise location of the eyes have been developed&#xD;
in the last decades. Aware of this need, we propose a&#xD;
method for automatic detection of eyes in images of&#xD;
human faces using semivariogram functions and support&#xD;
vector machines. Patterns of eyes region and other areas&#xD;
of the face are represented through the semivariogram&#xD;
function to precisely distinguish the region of the eyes.&#xD;
The method was tested in the ORL human face&#xD;
database, which contains 400 images grouped in 40&#xD;
persons, each having 10 different expressions. The&#xD;
detection obtained results of sensitivity of 84.6%,&#xD;
specificity of 93.4% and accuracy of 88.45%.

      <title>State Space Decoupling Approach for Feedback Controller Design of Switching Converters</title>
      <link>https://repositorio.ufma.br/jspui/handle/1/212</link>
      <description>Título: State Space Decoupling Approach for Feedback Controller Design of Switching Converters
Autor(es): Gomes, E. de C.; Ribeiro, L. A. de S.; Caracas, J. V. M.; Catunda, S. Y. C.; Lorenz, R. D.
Resumo: This paper derives a new approach for&#xD;
analyzing dc-dc converters for feedback control design. The&#xD;
control-to-output voltage transfer function of the&#xD;
converters, usually predicted by averaging models, and the&#xD;
classical feedback control techniques are replaced by the&#xD;
state space average state block diagram analysis. These state&#xD;
block diagrams are obtained for state space averaging&#xD;
matrixes of the converters combined with their continuous&#xD;
conduction mode differential equations. This technique&#xD;
yields first order control transfer functions allowing easier&#xD;
synthesis of controllers. The resulting controllers&#xD;
demonstrate good transient response compared to voltage&#xD;
controllers based on k-factor approach. The structure is&#xD;
easy implement with relevant applications in integrated&#xD;
circuit manufacturing and industrial environment.
